The Pictures and the Environment
The prints
Each picture is individually hand produced and printed using the Lyson system (http://www.lyson.com) of archival inks and papers to be sure that the final print accurately reproduces the picture and will not fade for many, many years. All the materials used for the mounted pictures are of museum quality. Because each picture is a unique piece of art they are all numbered and supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity. Please bear in mind because of their individuality delivery can take up to three weeks.
The frames
Only framed pictures are offered – out of the box onto the wall. Three different colours of the solid oak frames (natural, limed and black) from sustainable forests are offered and two colours of mount (soft white and black). These are all hand made by a local craftsman.
However, you may want something else. No problem, contact us (phone or email) and we will be pleased to make a special frame or mount for a small, extra charge to meet your needs.
Postage and packing
Within Great Britain only the Royal Mail Special Delivery next day service is used. This tracks and insures your valuable picture against loss.
The quality of the materials used to produce the picture and the frames need a fair amount of packing material to prevent damage to them. Rather than just putting this in the rubbish with it eventually finding its way to a landfill site let me know if you would like a return postage label so it can be reused.
Where ever possible recycled paper and cardboard is used.
The environment
Photographers around the world are increasingly concerned about the effects of global warming and the effect on the environment that we photograph and love. Gilbert Park is no exception.
Many of the photographs on this website were taken abroad, some a long way from his home city of Cambridge. Nearly all were taken when he visited these countries to teach local doctors about dealing with infections and relieving pain and suffering in critically ill patients and the photography was a supplementary objective.
To offset this carbon the trees in the garden around the gallery are specially cared for. In addition, new planting of trees during the winter of 2007/8 is taking place to allow more carbon offsetting. Where ever possible bicycles and public transport are used in preference to a private car.
If you want to see the photographs or the gardens why not visit Gilbert’s Gallery the second half of 2008 (the old barn forming the gallery is being restored over the winter of 2007/8) and can be visited during the open days or by appointment. Watch the website for more details.
